University of Rochester Union Workers Vote on Possible Strike

Roughly 300 union workers at the University of Rochester and its hospitals were voting last night on a possible strike.

International Union of Operating Engineers Local 158 represents the university's plumbers, electricians and building mechanics.

The vote last night was on whether to begin a strike in ten days. The law requires ten day notice of a strike to allow the university to find replacement workers.

The University of Rochester says it will continue to bargain in good faith in the hope of agreeing on a new contract.
