The State's Teachers Union Looks to Improve School Security

The state's teachers union is weighing in on efforts to improve school security.

New York State United Teachers wants the state to issue uniform school safety guidance, particularly on lockdowns and points of entry.

The union also wants more funding to ensure state-recommended staffing for school counselors, psychologists, social workers and nurses.

Union officials say the “Safe School for All” report is to help meet social-emotional and safety needs of students, particularly post-pandemic.
