New Court of Appeals Chief Judge Chosen

The state Court of Appeals has named an acting Chief Judge.

Associate Judge Anthony Cannataro will take over when current Chief Judge Janet DiFiore steps aside next Wednesday.

He'll run the state's highest court until Governor Kathy Hochul nominates a new judge, who would then be confirmed by the state Senate.

DiFiore announced her retirement last month, and says her decision has nothing to do with an ethics investigation involving her seeking discipline of the president of the state’s court officers union.

Cannataro was nominated to join the Court of Appeals by then-Governor Andrew Cuomo in May of last year.
