State Legislature Looks to Help New Yorkers With Student Loan Debt

New Yorkers with student loan debt could get a break from the state legislature.

A bill in the state assembly would create a deduction on state income taxes of up to $5,000 for student loan payments.

Supporters call it a step in the right direction.

New Yorkers owe roughly $90 billion in student loan debt.

The federal government's suspension on student debt payments is scheduled to end next week.
