Catholic Diocese of Rochester Objecting Sex Abuse Claims

The Catholic Diocese of Rochester is objecting to roughly 75 of the hundreds of sex abuse claims against it on the grounds that the alleged abusers were not under the control or direction of the diocese.

Most of them worked at Catholic high schools.

In a statement, the diocese is not questioning the truthfulness of the claims. But says it did not hire, employ, train, or supervise those school employees.

The claims were brought under the state law that suspended the statute of limitations for claims by people abused years ago when they were children.
