Medicaid Oversight May Have Cost New Yorkers Nearly $300 Million

Lax oversight over Medicaid claims may have cost New York taxpayers nearly $300 million.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli says an audit found $292 million should have been billed to third-party insurers instead of Medicaid between October 2015 and May 2020.

Thiose insurers are supposed to be billed first, with Medicaid the payer of last resort.

Officials say they're working to beef up the recovery process.
