Some State Elections Commissioners Say Early Voting Isn't Worth the Cost

Some elections commissioners around the state say the low turnout during nine required days of early voting isn't worth the cost.

A Democratic elections commissioner for Rensselaer County tells The Albany Times Union that it is a struggle to find people to staff the polling places and few people show up to vote.

Around 1400 people voted early in his county during the nine days of early voting ahead of last month's primary.

Statewide, around 14 percent of the votes cast in the primary were cast by early voters. That's about 2 percent of all eligible voters.
