City of Rochester's Request to Dismiss Police Conduct Lawsuit Denied

A federal judge has denied the City of Rochester's request to dismiss a lawsuit against police conduct during protests in the city in September 2020.

The class-action lawsuit alleges police used excessive force and military tactics during the protests, injuring hundreds of protesters.

The case was brought by a group of activists, including Stanley Martin -- who is now a city councilmember -- and Anthony Hall, the head of the city's Pathways to Peace program.

The protests followed the disclosure of the death of Daniel Prude, days after he became unconscious during an encounter with police.
