City Council Approves Budget

The Rochester City Council has voted 6 to 3 to approve the city budget for the fiscal year that begins next month.

Mayor Malik Evans says the budget reflects his administration’s priorities. Those include Public Safety through intervention, prevention and suppression; Strengthening Neighborhoods with increased home ownership and affordable housing; and strategic investments in infrastructure, including the Inner Loop North and the Riverway

The city will spend $627 million dollars in the coming year -- an increase of more than 9 percent over the current budget. There is no change in the tax levy.

The three "no" votes were cast by Mary Lupien, Kim Smith, and Stanley Martin.
