The accused Buffalo mass shooter could face the federal death penalty for the killings of ten people last month at a supermarket.
The U.S. government has tacked on federal charges on top of the state murder charges that were filed soon after the killings.
The new charges against Payton Gendron include multiple counts of Hate Crime Resulting in Death, Hate Crime Involving Bodily Injury, and Use of a Firearm to Commit Murder During a Crime of Violence.
The filing of the criminal complaint coincides with today's Buffalo visit by U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland.
He is meeting today with survivors and families of the victims.
