PAB Pans RPD Protest Policies

Rochester's Police Accountability Board has released a review of the Rochester Police Department's new policies for responding to protests in the community.

The PAB says on Twitter that the policies are unclear and can be rendered ineffective by exceptions within the policies themselves, or by inconsistent implementation.

The PAB says the community should be heard in the creation and implementation of protest policies.

It says the policies as announced by the RPD are an improvement over past guidelines but have yet to be seen in action.

The PAB notes it would like to see the full policy and training materials supporting it for review, not just the department's news release.

It also wants the department to clarify what is an "unlawful gathering" or "civil disorder."
