State troopers and Monroe County sheriff's deputies are providing additional patrols in Rochester's toughest neighborhoods.
City police say they need the help because the department is experiencing an unprecedented staffing shortage.
The extra patrols are planned for specific areas where there has been a lot of gun-related violence.
City police say nearly all of the city's shootings are happening on only 11 percent of the city’s street segments.
Meantime, city police say they are stepping up recruitment efforts.
