Authorities have released the names of the two men who were killed when their Mercy Flight helicopter crashed in Genesee County. Investigators say James Sauer, 60, of Churchville and Stewart Dietrick, 60, of Texas died in the accident yesterday. Dietrick was a Bell Helicopter employee. Sauer was a long time Army aviator with the New York National Guard, and served 8 years with the Rochester Police Department. The Bell 429 chopper was based in Batavia and was on a training mission when it crashed off Norton Road, in Elba. Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board are expected to be at the crash scene today. It could take months to determine what went wrong. The Federal Aviation Administration will assist with the investigation.
