Hochul Wants Change to Election Laws

Governor Hochul wants state lawmakers to change New York's election law so she can replace former Lieutenant Governor Brian Benjamin on the ballot.

Benjamin resigned earlier this month after pleading not guilty to bribery and fraud-related charges.

Under the current law, a candidate who has already accepted a party's nomination can't be taken off the ballot unless they die, move out of state, or seek another office.

Both Democrats and Republicans say they're hesitant to change the rules before the June primary.
