State to Appeal Ruling on Election Maps

Governor Hochul and Attorney General Letitia James say the state will appeal a judge's ruling that tossed out the new Congressional and legislative district maps.

A judge in Steuben County yesterday ruled the maps are unconstitutional and ordered state lawmakers to redraw the maps by a week from Monday.

The Republican judge ruled that the districts were illegally drawn by the legislature to benefit Democrats.

But Democrats expect an appellate court will allow the district boundaries to remain in place for this year's primaries and elections

Party primaries are scheduled for June 28
