Rochester police say three officers needed to be checked out at the hospital after a scuffle with a man at a city apartment tower.
It happened in the 5 a.m. hour when police responded to the Hamilton Apartments on Mt. Hope Avenue for a disturbance call.
Police say a man at an apartment hit officers with a blunt object and was taken into custody.
That's when officers saw smoke in the apartment and notified the fire department.
Police evacuated tenants on the entire floor, and the fire was contained to the apartment where it began.
The cause is under investigation.
Charges are pending against the man.
