Governor Kathy Hochul is proposing big changes to the state's bail reform law.
The New York Post reports the 10-point plan would allow a judge to consider a defendant's criminal history when setting bail.
It would also subject certain gun-related offenses subject to bail.
Bail reform was passed in 2019 to prevent people from being detained just because they didn’t have enough money to post bail.
Hochul's reforms are far from guaranteed to pass.
Both Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie are opposed to any amendments to the law.
