A Greece police officer has filed notice of intent to sue the town. Officer Casey Voelkl says he was made a "scapegoat" after he raised concerns over the investigation into former Chief Drew Forsythe's driving under the influence crash in October of 2020.
Voelkl was one of two deputy chiefs in the Greece Police Department at the time. He says he grew concerned after seeing the condition of Forsythe's SUV. He also says he grew concerned that the matter would be covered up because Supervisor Bill Reilich was running for re-election. He then called the District Attorney's Office and requested an independent investigation.
In a notice of claim filed with the courts, Voelkl says he was retaliated against by Supervisor Reilich. He says he was passed over to serve as interim chief, and was one of three officers suspended by the department over the Forsythe incident although he was not one of the officers who responded to the crash.
Chief Forsythe was criminally charged in November after resigning, and pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of driving with ability impaired.
