A Man Fires Long Gun at a Plainclothes Officer

We expect today to find out the name of the man who Rochester police say, unprovoked, fired a long gun at plainclothes officers in an unmarked car in the Edgerton neighborhood.

Interim Police Chief David Smith says it happened around dinner time last night on Glenwood Avenue.

The investigators fired back, chased the man down, and took him into custody.

Police and the D.A. are conducting the criminal investigation.

Police are also conducting a standard internal investigation into the use of service weapons.

But Smith says it appears the officers did exactly as they are trained.
