Mayor-Elect Evans Will Launch National Police Chief Search

Rochester Mayor-Elect Malik Evans says he'll launch a nationwide search for a new police chief when he takes office in January. He says a search firm will be hired, and that firm will be looking for someone who has special talents. He or she will have to be someone capable of drawing immediate respect from uniformed officers, and also from the community.

Evans said in a news conference Wednesday afternoon that he spent the day meeting with law enforcement leaders from all levels, federal to local, about what can be done to cut violence in our community and connect police and citizens.

Next week, Evans says he'll hold a similar meeting with community anti-violence activists as he works to build bridges between city hall and neighborhoods.
