New York State has reached an agreement to settle a long legal fight over education funding.
Governor Hochul says the state will make good on its commitment to fully fund the current Foundation Aid formula to New York's school districts and end the State's prior opposition to providing the funding.
Full funding will cost $4 billion over three years.
The state was sued seven years ago by New Yorkers for Students' Educational Rights. The plaintiffs argued the state was not meeting its obligations under the formula that was agreed to in 2007. The formula takes school district wealth and student needs into account when distributing state aid.
