The Yates County Sheriff's Office says a man hit and killed by a train yesterday in the Town of Starkey had a significant hearing impairment, but liked to walk on the railroad tracks.
They say 62-year-old Raymond Arthurs of Dundee was walking between the rails when a southbound Norfolk Southern freight train came up from behind him. He failed to notice the horn or the train's flashing lights, and was struck and killed. The train's black box showed speed was not a factor in the accident.
