Chief Says Victim Shot in Family Dollar Store Was Wanted for 3 Murders

Interim Rochester Police Chief Cynthia Harriett-Sullivan says a man fatally shot by police in a Family Dollar Store on West Main Street last night was a murder suspect, wanted in three Rochester homicides over the last two years.

Herriott-Sullivan says two officers entered the store Wednesday night to find a robbery in progress and an employee being held at gunpoint. There was an exchange of fire between the officers and the suspect, who was killed. Police say they don't know yet who fired first.

Herriott-Sullivan says anything more will have to come from the State Attorney General's Office. The AG's office has taken over the investigation as a matter of course because it's an officer-involved fatal shooting.
