Parents Angry That To Kill A Mocking Bird Makes Students Uncomfortable

Civil rights activists and parents are angry about the way a 10th-grade teacher in Hilton introduced students to the award-winning novel "To Kill a Mockingbird".

The N-word is used in the book.

The N-word was displayed on a screen in the classroom, and parent Jessyca Roberts says that made her son uncomfortable.

The New York City-based group Arc of Justice is urging the state attorney general to investigate the lesson for possible civil rights violations.

The Hilton School District has apologized. But the district says the book sparks conversations that are uncomfortable and need to occur in a safe environment.
