A survey commissioned by Co/Efficient shows incoming New York Governor Kathy Hochul is an early frontrunner in the 2022 Democratic primary race for governor.
The poll shows 42 percent of voters view Hochul favorably, although nearly half,48 percent, say they’re still “unsure” or “unaware” of her.
At that, Hochul outpaces disgraced outgoing Governor Andrew Cuomo by three percentage points on total favorability.
Forty percent of Democratic primary voters now hold a negative view of Cuomo, but 60 percent hold either a positive or neutral view of Hochul.
Those stats mean Cuomo might still have a path to renomination as the Democratic candidate if he should decide to run again in 2022 after resigning.
Fifty percent or more of Democratic voters like Congresswoman Ocasio Cortez or Attorney General Letitia James, but the poll shows a lot of Democratic voters want to keep them where they are.
