LONSBERRY: Biden Lost The Afghan War

The American intelligence community said Kabul would fall in 90 days.

               Instead, it was four.

On Saturday, the Afghan president said he stood resolute against the Taliban.

On Sunday, he fled the country.

The American president said we would pull out on September 11. His ambassador struck the flag and abandoned the embassy on August 15.

The United States said it would stand with the Afghan government and people.

That’s ending in beheadings and firing squads, and the assignment of little girls and newly widowed women to their new Taliban “husbands.”

               Call them Biden Brides.

And call the botched withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan the worst embarrassment for the United States since the helicopter lifted off the embassy roof in Saigon. America is a good ally if you’re France and it’s 1945. But other than that, Uncle Sam is kind of a flake.

And America’s military standing in the world is in the wind.

Which means the globe totters in the balance, as China and Russia and various criminals and jihadis move to carve up what they’re going to carve up.

Because weakness invites attack. More precisely, history teaches, weakness guarantees attack. The wolves circle the old bull and there’s no question how it’s going to end.

That’s where Biden’s America looks to stand today, as our pullout seems to have come down on their terms. Where our triumphant return home comes with a load of buckshot in the ass.

We served honorably for 20 years and in the last two months that all got thrown away. We went to Afghanistan to assert our strength against our enemies, and we are leaving Afghanistan in a fashion that advertises our weakness to the world. It seems that the brain trust atop the American government thought a military drawdown amounted to little more than buying some plane tickets home.

And so it is that everything that was gained over 20 years of effort evaporates in a week. Afghanistan’s shot at modernity slides back into an Islamist dark ages. Welcome to the caliphate. Like a dog to its vomit and a hog to its mire, Afghanistan has reembraced its true nature.

Yes, Afghans will fight, but not for freedom or family, only for faith. Only for jihad.

And that’s their choice. Think of it as picking their pronoun. They are free to be who they want to be.

And we were right to come home. But we should have known that if you don’t leave intelligently, you sow seeds of chaos and evil – Obama taught us that in Iraq. And it seems Biden is renewing the lesson in Afghanistan. Obama gave us the Islamic State, and who knows what whirlwind Biden will give us.

We didn’t even destroy our equipment. We left billions of dollars worth of state of the art military equipment that has now fallen without a whimper into the hands of tyrants and terrorists. They drive our vehicles and shoot our guns and use our ammunition. We hoped to leave hospitals and schools. Instead we gave them barracks and bunkers.

Yes, the Afghanistan war was a success. We changed the venue in the war on terror, we defended the American homeland. They wanted to fight our civilians in our country, we got them to fight our warriors in theirs. For 20 years we bled them on their own ground. For 20 years the mothers of militant Islam sent their sons to Afghanistan – or Iraq – to face the infidel, and we stacked them up like cordwood.

But we didn’t kill enough of them.

Because they have moved powerfully in recent weeks, rolling faster than Sherman through Georgia or Patton through Europe. That is a credit to their ability, and the unwillingness of the Afghan government and people to resist, and a proof that America’s top brass has its head up its ass.

I guess the Pentagon was so busy looking for extremism in its ranks that it couldn’t see it in its enemy.

And their flag flies and ours is folded or burned.

And you can add the name of whoever commands the Taliban to that of Ho Chi Minh and the various Iraqi and Somali warlords who have beaten the United States in a war.

Joe Biden is too senile to understand the danger his incompetence has created. Or the fact that the 20thanniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11 will see the world exactly where it was back then – with the Taliban in power in Afghanistan and the United States fat, stupid and ripe for the picking.
