With the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games underway, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is pushing for equal pay for U.S. national teams.
The senator is introducing the Even Playing Field Act of 2021 to ensure national athletes, coaches, and personnel receive equal pay, investment, and working conditions. She says despite the success on the field, the U.S.
Soccer Federation pays women team members just 38 cents for every dollar paid to their male counterparts. In addition, Gillibrand says in 2020 women earned 82 cents for every dollar their male counterparts earned and both are unacceptable.
