Monroe County COVID-19 Update

Monroe County health officials are calling for more people to get vaccinated against COVID-19 as the number of new infections is beginning to creep up.

According to the Finger Lakes Vaccine Hub, about 70 percent of the eligible population is vaccinated, but there are clusters of unvaccinated people who are getting sick.

Monroe County Health Commissioner Dr. Michael Mendoza says getting vaccinated is the best protection against the virus.

The health department reported there were 53 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported today.

The CDC is recommending individuals wear masks indoors in areas where coronavirus is spiking.

County Executive Adam Bello says this uptick in new cases is concerning but he does not anticipate having to call for a mask mandate to be reinstated or requiring Monroe County employees to get vaccinated.
