No Civil Rights Investigation in Handling of NY COVID Nursing Home Deaths

The U.S. Justice Department won't be conducting a civil rights investigation into New York State's handling of COVID-19 deaths at state-run nursing homes.

Some Republicans claim the decision is a political move by the Biden administration to take the pressure off Governor Cuomo, and Democratic governors in two other states facing similar scrutiny.

The decision, however, does not end the other investigations involving New York's nursing home deaths. The state Assembly Judiciary Committee is investigating, and federal prosecutors in New York City are believed to be looking at the state policy that put COVID-positive residents in nursing homes in the first weeks of the pandemic.
