Use Of Force Deaths Figures Released

New numbers released by the state Division of Criminal Justice Services show half of police use-of-force cases in the state involved a person who is Black.

The Albany Times Union reports the numbers were released Thursday, and involve about 7,000 use of force cases between July 2019 and October 2020.

In those 16 months, ten people died after police used force -- but the number of deaths does not include deaths in New York City. Seven of those who died were white and three were black.

Two deaths occurred while police were providing medical or mental health assistance.
