Governor Cuomo has signed the Gender Recognition Act.

The law allows parents to change their names on birth certificates and allows citizens to use "X" as a non-binary sex designation on their driver's licenses.

Governor Cuomo says New York has led the way for LGBTQ+ rights.

Governor Cuomo said "We banned conversion therapy, and we reformed the adoption process and we banned the gay and trans panic defense and we repelled walking while trans" Recognizing some of the efforts New York has put forth to improve the lives of LGBTQ+ individuals.

The signing coincides with the tenth anniversary of the signing of marriage equality into law in New York.
