State Legislation Ends With Matters Unresolved

The state legislative session has ended in Albany with some work incomplete.

Lawmakers approved a bill that prevents parolees from going back to prison for non-criminal violations of parole.

But there was no final debate on bills granting parole or parole hearings to some older inmates who have not completed their prison time.

Bills extending alcohol-to-go sales at bars and restaurants also stalled.

And there was no action on a proposed moratorium on the use of fossil-fuel power plants for digital currency mining.

Meantime, lawmakers passed a bill that allows people to use a gender-neutral "X" as a gender marker on driver's licenses and birth certificates.
