State Backtracks on School Mask Mandate

Governor Cuomo is still requiring that face masks be used when indoors at school and summer camps, while they're optional outdoors.

This backtracks on this past Friday's announcement, in which masks would have been optional for indoor and outdoor settings, at both schools and summer camps.

Now, individual districts and camps can allow kids to go without a mask when outdoors, such as during recess.

New York's Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker wrote a letter to the CDC last week indicating the state's plans, but Cuomo said today the federal agency doesn't plan to change their mask guidelines for at least another several weeks, prompting New York's reversal.
