New "Dirt Bike" Law Unanimously Approved

The Monroe County Legislature has unanimously approved a new law cracking down on off-road vehicles used illegally on the streets.

Under the law, the dirt bikes and ATVs could be confiscated and riders could face a fine of up to $1000 and a $2,000 fee to recover impounded vehicles.

It's not clear how long the machines would be held before they'd be sold at auction.

The legislation was proposed this spring after a man and a boy were killed in separate dirt bike crashes in Rochester.

Dirt bike riders are hoping the city will designate an off-road location where they can ride legally.
