Rochester Man Accused in Capitol Riot, Pleads Not Guilty to New Charges

A reputed member of the Proud Boys from Rochester has pleaded not guilty to new charges stemming from the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Ex-Marine Dominic Pezzola appeared this morning in federal court in Washington, D.C.

The 11-count superseding indictment charges him with conspiracy, assaulting an officer, civil disorder, destruction of government property, obstruction of an official proceeding and robbery. He is accused of taking a riot shield form a Capitol police officer.

His next scheduled court appearance is a status conference on August 2. But the defense plans to argue again for his release on bail. His lawyer calls his confinement "psychologically damaging".
