Safer Staffing Changes Coming to New York

State lawmakers have passed bills that would establish safer staffing levels at nursing homes and hospitals in New York.

One calls for the state Health Commissioner to mandate the minimum number of people on duty at nursing homes and fine facilities that don't meet that standard.

As for hospitals, staffing committees would be created to help ensure patients receive the highest quality of care.

There's no word yet whether the governor will sign the bills.
