Fertility Rates Were Way Down During 2020

New preliminary data from the CDC says the nation's birth rate dropped again last year amid the pandemic, to quote another record low down four for women ages 15-44.

The data is the latest reminder of the nation's slowing population growth, which the census said earlier this year was the slowest since the Great Depression, The CDC says the fertility rate has been quote below replacement since 2007.

The agency is also out with new research examining birth rates among New York City residents during the early months of COVID-19 last year, finding that more women, many white compared to black and Hispanic, had left the city when delivering their child.
