Gates Carjacking Victim Identified, Police Confirm Car in Possession

UPDATE: The victim of yesterday's carjacking homicide in Gates has been identified.

71-year-old Richard Sciascia of Irondequoit died when he shot during the incident on Buell Road.

Gates Police confirm they have the black sedan they were looking for in connection with the homicide.

A juvenile was taken into custody, but later released.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact them.

A police pursuit in Rochester may be connected to yesterday's homicide and attempted carjacking in Gates.

Rochester police say a man was driving a car on Danforth Street last night believed to be involved in "an earlier incident in Gates."

After a brief car and foot chase, the man was taken into custody.

He and the black sedan with tinted windows were turned over to police in Gates.

The vehicle is similar to the vehicle involved in the Gates homicide.
