Study: Nursing Home COVID-19 Deaths Linked to Cuomo Order

An Albany think tank has found a correlation between the admission of recovering COVID-19 patients to nursing homes last year and an increase in deaths of nursing home residents.

The Empire Center analyzed newly released state data and found a "statistically significant" increase in deaths resulting from the state health department policy.

The policy was enacted by the Cuomo administration last March 25th to free-up hospital beds and was canceled May 10.

The findings imply that the more than 6,300 COVID-positive admissions during that time were associated with at least several hundred additional deaths of nursing home residents.
