UR to Raise its Minimum Wage to $15

The University of Rochester says it will raise its minimum wage to $15 per hour by the end of next year. The university announced today (Wed) it will phase in the pay raises, one this coming December, and the second in December of 2022.

The U of R is a member of the Rochester-Monroe County Anti-Poverty Initiative. It says by boosting its minimum wage, it's helping advance the Initiative's goals of spreading affordability to help reduce poverty.

UR President Sarah Mangelsdorf said in a statement that as the largest employer in the Rochester area, the university is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion. She says the UR has a moral obligation to its lowest wage employees, many of whom are performing essential duties during the pandemic.
