Republicans in the state legislature are taking a stand for accountability in the state government.
One proposal would let voters recall and replace statewide-elected officials -- namely, the Governor, the Attorney General and the state Comptroller.
Similar proposals in the legislature in the past have gone nowhere, but Republicans say it would limit executive authority and restore the balance of power in government.
Another proposal would give New Yorkers the power vote directly on laws or parts of laws and propose their own amendments.
