URMC Responds to COVID-19 Vaccine Controversy

The University of Rochester and URMC are putting out a statement following news that an email was sent out indicating that people connected to the university including donors, could get the COVID-19 vaccine at a special clinic.

According to the statement from President Sarah Mangelsdorf and URMC CEO Mark Taubman released today, there was no special clinic -- but 26 people got the vaccine at a clinic that was set up to vaccinate employees.

The statement says, “These 26 people were all eligible to receive vaccine, but they should not have received preferential treatment by being invited to the clinic.”

The statement goes on to say that as soon as URMC leadership became aware of this issue, immediate steps were taken so something like this doesn't happen again.
