Group of Rochester Activists Running for Seats on City Council

Four progressive activists who've organized and participated in recent protests against police and politicians in Rochester are teaming up to run for seats on the City Council.

Stanley Martin, Kim Smith, Brittan Hardgers and Kevin Stewart call themselves "The People's Slate".

The five at-large Council seats are at stake this year. Three incumbents are expected to run for new terms -- Mitch Gruber, Willie Lightfoot, and Miguel Meléndez.

Smith lost a Democratic state senate primary last year and tried unsuccessfully to fill a city council vacancy. Martin ran unsuccessfully for City Council’s East District seat in 2019.
