State Slashes Utility Rate Requests

State utility regulators have slashed rate hike proposals from Rochester Gas and Electric...and from New York State Electric and Gas.

RG&E had sought to raise electric rates by 15 percent over the next three years...and NYSEG wanted an increase that ramped up by nearly 25 percent.

The State Public Service Commission instead granted NYSEG a two percent increase, and RG&E a 1.6 percent increase.

The ruling is being hailed by AARP and the Public Utility Law Project, which opposed the requested rate increases.
