Voter Turnout at Record Pace in Monroe County

Voting remains on pace to set a record in Monroe County.

The final numbers from the Board of Elections just before the polls closed tonight say nearly 74 percent of Monroe County residents have voted in this presidential and general election. More than 159-thousand voted in person today. Add to that nearly 106-thousand early voters and more than 95-thousand absentee voters.

That's nearly a quarter of the electorate voting absentee, and those won't be counted until two weeks from now, which could change tonight's results.

Republican Election Commissioner Lisa Nicolay says they were able to set up numerous polling places to replace those that opted out because of COVID-19, and that helped to hold down lines as people waited to vote.

There were some minor problems at the start of voting with the iPads that log people in to vote, but they were resolved in less than an hour. Everything ran smoothly after that.
