Three people have been arrested for a series of burglaries in Monroe County and five nearby counties.
The Monroe County Sheriff's office says Kristina Marble, Eric Smith and Jose Cruz-Rosado have been arrested and are facing a slew of charges following a joint investigation between several agencies.
Monroe Co. Sheriff Todd Baxter says they started noticing some commonalities in the crimes that were being committed. And that's when they set up the six county task force to look at similar crimes that were being committed in other counties, and coordinate their efforts.
Authorities say the investigation involved more than 30 thefts, but culminated with a burglary at a Speedway gas station in Victor last month. Deputies had noticed a suspicious vehicle outside the gas station and followed the vehicle while others confirmed that a burglary had in fact just been committed.
Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies executed a traffic stop of the vehicle on Rt. 490-E, just west of the Erie Canal. They were able to take Marble and Smith into custody without incident, but had to track Cruz-Rosado with a K9 unit after he fled the traffic stop and tried to swim across the canal.
All three suspects are facing burglary charges out of Ontario County. Marble and Smith are charged with burglary and grand larceny in Monroe County another other charges.
