A sudden increase in COVID-19 cases in a Steuben County nursing home has authorities puzzled.
Five more deaths were reported at Corning Center Wednesday.
The five residents were between 82 and 92 years old.
That brings the total number of COVID-19 deaths in Steuben County to 65.
Corning Center had NO cases before Labor Day.
Steuben County Health Commissioner Dr. Darlene Smith says suddenly, more than 100 patients and staff caught the virus, and two dozen people have died.
Both state health department and federal officials have inspected the Corning Center and found no violations. Smith says it's clearly a case of community spread, but they can't say how it spread so fast.
