The University of Rochester Medical Center has released an Equity and Anti-Racism Plan, saying it will start a five-year effort to strengthen diversity and inclusion at the center, and address inequities in patient care.
The full plan is on the URMC's website. It breaks down into five steps, starting with building an anti-racist structure within the medical center, and recruiting a more diverse student body and faculty. Other steps include nurturing a respectful environment, demonstrating inclusion and enaging in equitable healthcare.
The University of Rochester says that means identifying barriers that keep patients from getting equal health care and expanding access to care.
University officials say this plan has been in the works for several months. Medical students and doctors demonstrated back in June for a timetable to end social injustice within the center.
