Electric Buses Arrive in Rochester

Rochester's Regional Transit Service has added the first ten electric buses to its fleet.

RTS is adding the electric buses as part of a commitment by New York's major public transit agencies to have 100 percent carbon-free bus fleets by 2035. The state announced funding for electric buses in 2017. With the first ten buses now arriving, RTS says it will have 20 electric buses online by the end of next year, and it will phase out diesel-powered buses by the 2035 goal.

The first ten electric buses and their charging infrastructure cost about $12 million, with about two-thirds of the money provided by the state.
