Monroe Co. Executive Introduces Changes to Improve Mental Health Services

Monroe County Executive Adam Bello has announced three initiatives to change the way the county delivers mental health and substance abuse services.

The steps were prompted by the death in police custody of Daniel Prude, who was having a mental health episode and was high on drugs when he was restrained.

The county is adding $360,000 to expand the Forensic Intervention Team, which partners mental health clinicians with police on crisis calls.

Bello also is creating a new coordinating team overseeing substance abuse treatment.

And he is creating a task force to look at reforming the delivery of mental health services.
